About Julie A. Jacobs, Psy.D., J.D.

I am a Licensed Psychologist in Colorado and an attorney, admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2014. I received my B.S. cum laude in Psychology from the University of Florida and my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology.

Prior to attending law school, I practiced for 12 years as a clinical psychologist in a variety of settings, including private practice, college counseling centers, and the United States Air Force.

Several years ago, I decided to change the path of my career and focus on helping mental health providers understand the interaction between law and mental health practice. I left Charleston, South Carolina, and moved to Boulder where I obtained my J.D. at the University of Colorado Law School, ranking in the top 6% of  my graduating class.

In addition to my legal practice, I also work as a Risk Management Consultant for The Trust.  Through The Trust Practice and Risk Management Association (TrustPARMA) and The Trust’s Advocate 800 Service, I provide ethics and risk management consultations to psychologists insured through The Trust Sponsored Professional Liability Insurance Program.

I love working with mental heath professionals and I use my own experiences as the basis for understanding the needs of my clients.

My focus is on helping mental health providers establish and maintain their practices. I strive to optimize the work of mental health providers by addressing issues of risk management, ethical decision-making, and legal and regulatory compliance. I am familiar with the Colorado Mental Health Practice Act and state and federal policies regarding mental health practice as well as the ethics codes of the various mental health professions. I acted as the chair of the Legislative Committee of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Psychological Association ("CPA") from 2017 – 2024, and I'm currently an active member of the Legislative Committee for CPA.

I am passionate about “helping the helpers” and bridging the gap between mental health practice and the law. As a provider myself for over a decade, I bring a unique perspective to the practice of mental health law.
